Finding Relief with Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE)

For years, Jason lived with constant knee pain that limited his workouts and daily life. After multiple surgeries and countless flare-ups, he discovered a new, minimally invasive solution at Medical Vein Clinic — and it changed everything.

Meet Jason

JJason lives in San Antonio and works as a civilian for the U.S. Army. Originally from Ohio, he came to Texas in 2008 to work on base, later spent several years in Germany, and returned to San Antonio in 2019.

Knee issues had followed him since high school and college. “I’ve had knee problems most of my adult life,” he shared. “But I always put off pursuing medical care.”

Living with Pain

An active member of Camp Gladiator, a high-intensity boot camp–style fitness group, Jason works out three to four times a week. But his knee pain had begun to slow him down.

He’d already undergone two arthroscopic surgeries for a torn meniscus, but the relief was temporary.
“They cleaned it up both times,” he said, “but I was still feeling a lot of arthritic pain and stiffness. I was looking for something that could really reduce or take away the pain.”

When his doctor suggested knee injections, Jason wasn’t convinced.

“I’m not into the idea of shots into the knee,” he said.
“They can cost $500 to $800 per shot — and they’re temporary. Luckily, with my insurance, the GAE procedure was only a $150 co-pay.”

Discovering GAE

While doing his own research, Jason came across information about Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) on social media. “Something popped up in my Instagram feed, but that clinic was in Houston,” he recalled. “I wasn’t going to travel that far, so I kept researching.”

That’s when he found Medical Vein Clinic in San Antonio, which offered free consultations. After meeting with doctors at two different clinics, both confirmed he was a good candidate for the procedure.

“They told me that for someone my age and with my level of arthritis, GAE could relieve most of my discomfort,” Jason said. “I really liked both clinics, but Medical Vein Clinic could get me in sooner — so I went with them.”

Treatment and Recovery

Jason had his GAE procedure on September 10th, 2025 with Dr. Gianis and the care team at Medical Vein Clinic.

“Dr. Gianis and the nurses took really good care of me,” he said. “He talked to me the whole time during the procedure, explaining everything he was doing — and that was really nice.”

Just five days later, Jason was walking with no discomfort. “I couldn’t believe how quickly I bounced back,” he said.

Only a week after treatment, he was back to his Camp Gladiator workouts. “I’m about 80–90% better,” Jason said. “I’m really happy with the procedure and glad I got it done.”

Looking Ahead

The success of his first procedure was so encouraging that Jason already has plans for more. “I’m so happy with it that I’m getting my other knee done,” he said. “It’s made a huge difference in how I move and how I feel.”

💬 Patient Testimonial Highlight

“Dr. Gianis and the staff took such great care of me. Just five days after my GAE procedure, I was walking pain-free — and a week later, I was back to my workouts. I’m so glad I did it!”
